Summer 2018: Back in the Saddle…

Welcome to the new–and IMPROVED–site!! Finishing the master’s degree took priority these past six months or so, and this academic year I had the added responsibility of serving as the trumpet studio’s Graduate Teaching Assistant. I had such a wealth of experiences at CCM, and am very thankful for the ways in which I grew during my time there. But now, moving on to new and exciting things!

Since April, I’ve been working on a number of projects:

  1. Attending and performing at the 2018 International Trumpet Guild Conference in San Antonio, Texas. On a more personal note, I also had the opportunity to hang with some family that I don’t often see, which was very special–thanks to you guys for making my return to the Southwest memorable!
  2. Attending the University of Kentucky’s Summer Trumpet Institute with guest artists Rex Richardson, Vince DiMartino, Marie Speziale, and Stephen Campbell, to name just a handful of the world-class faculty. A HUGE thank-you to Dr. Jason Dovel for hosting such an excellent trumpet event so close to the Greater Cincinnati area. I had the pleasure of playing for and receiving coachings from several of the faculty, in addition to making some new friends and getting re-acquainted with old ones.
  3. Slowly reviving and planning some activities for my brass quintet, Grand Avenue Brass! Those who follow GAB have noticed [and commented] on the lack of activity coming from us recently… With four of our members relocating across the country and three of us working on completing graduate degrees, the choice to take a little ‘time off’ was an obvious one! However, I’m pleased to announce here that we’ve currently got a few really cool projects in the works. Stay tuned both on Facebook and over at grandavenuebrass.com for details coming in the very near future!!
  4. Last but not least, I’ve slowly been making attempts to grow both my teaching and performance network here in Greater Cincinnati. I’m very fortunate to be part of the thriving arts scene in this city, and it’s been really exciting to make some new friendships this summer! Over the next few months, you can catch me playing with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, CCM’s 2018 Opera Bootcamp Orchestra, and teaching throughout the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area. The action begins TONIGHT with the KSO’s kick-off “Summer Sunday” concert, located at Cottell Park in Mason, Ohio. We’ll also be performing the same program tomorrow evening at Devou Park in Covington, Kentucky.

Thanks for reading–if you’ve made it this far–and thanks as well for the unwavering support of my family, friends, and fans! I’m looking forward to making more frequent updates with the site, including more original content such as blog posts, recordings, videos, and more!!

Stephen
